Barbara Okeny, M.A., LMHC, ATR-BC (She/Her)
Psychotherapist at And Still We Rise, LLC, Ms. Okeny is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and board-certified Art Therapist. Ms. Okeny received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and Master of Arts degree from Lesley University. She is a Clinical Psychology doctoral student with a focus on racial trauma, intergenerational and systemic trauma due to policing and work with immigrants and refugees from African and Caribbean nations. She is a black feminist who engages in abolitionist activism, working collaboratively to address systemic inequities and centering racial justice. Ms. Okeny has training in trauma-informed treatment, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavioral therapy and arts-based approaches to mental health. Her favorite past times include spending time with her friends, family, and community, traveling, baking, painting and printmaking.
Ms. Okeny is fluent in English. She is in the process of learning her native language, Acholi. Acholi is a language that is specific to her tribe in South Sudan.
