Desiree Hartman (She/Her)

Desiree (Desi) is a Liberation Consultant with And Still We Rise, who believes in the power of nurturing relationships to seed futures of healing, justice, and collective liberation. Desi graduated with a Master of Social Work from Boston University and obtained degrees in Psychology and Global Health from Colorado College. Desi is passionate about migrant justice and promoting child and family well-being through trauma-informed and anti-oppressive frameworks.

As a clinical social worker, Desi has provided dignified mental health support to children and families who have experienced trauma as a result of unjust policies and systemic oppression. Throughout her professional career and education, she has partnered with local leaders on community-driven solutions and provided therapeutic support to families impacted by immigration-related trauma, human trafficking, intimate partner violence, gun violence, and ongoing racial violence and inequities. Desi’s research experience and contributions have focused on early childhood attachment, immigration, addressing structural racism, trauma-informed practices, and mitigating secondary effects of trauma.

Beyond her work with ASWR, Desi serves as a Senior Training and Learning Specialist at Boston Medical Center's Vital Village Networks and the Center for Excellence in Immigrant Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health. In these roles, she designs and facilitates interactive training sessions for professionals across various disciplines, building capacity for trauma-informed practices that center on cultural strengths and community wisdom.

Desi is fluent in English and actively improving her Spanish language skills to better serve multilingual communities.
