Eri Cruz Rodríguez (They/Elle/Ella)

E/Eri Cruz Rodríguez is a Clinical Social Work Trainee at And Still We Rise and a student at the Smith College School for Social Work. They believe that mental health is a human right, and that high-quality mental healthcare should be accessible to everyone.

Born and raised in Mexico, Eri studied clinical psychology at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where they completed a thesis on young lesbians' mental health. Eri is a licensed clinical psychologist in Mexico and has practiced in a variety of clinical and community settings in Mexico City. They also co-founded a nonprofit in their hometown of Ecatepec, Estado de México, to provide free and affordable mental healthcare in underserved communities, and volunteered with SAPTEL, a national crisis hotline in Mexico.

Since immigrating to the United States, Eri has worked as a health educator for a community clinic in Austin, Texas, serving mostly immigrants and asylum-seekers from Latin America and Africa.

Eri is passionate about LGBTQ+ issues, and was part of the groundbreaking 2009 campaign to legalize same-sex marriage in Mexico City. They have also designed and facilitated trainings for healthcare staff and providers on providing affirming care for LGBTQ+ patients.

Eri has enjoyed making sourdough bread since 2016, before it was trendy. They also love spending time in nature and with animals, running and hiking, and enjoying live music.
