Sky Gavis-Hughson, LCSW (They/Them)
Sky Gavis-Hughson (they/them) is a Licensed Certified Social Worker in Massachusetts and a psychotherapist at And Still We Rise.
Sky believes that we heal in relationship and brings an intersectional social justice lens to their work. Their clinical approach includes highlighting clients’ existing resources and helping build new ones; unpacking how privilege and oppression impact clients’ lives and the therapeutic relationship; exploring internal conflicts and helping clients come into a greater sense of alignment with themselves; and offering a nonjudgmental, trauma-informed therapeutic space.
Sky is passionate about co-creating healing spaces that go beyond traditional talk-only, skills-based, and/or medical models of care. Their work draws from somatic approaches, internal family systems, the liberation health model, dialectical behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and solutions-focused therapy. Sky is certified in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Level 1, a modality that seeks to tap into the wisdom of the body to heal trauma and attachment issues. Their clinical interests include LGBTQ+ identity, developmental and complex trauma, dissociation, attachment issues and boundaries, the impacts of systemic marginalization and oppression, chronic pain and illness, disability, spirituality, religious trauma, neurodivergence, body focused repetitive behaviors (BFRB), and self injurious and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Sky is committed to continual self-reflection and action as a White clinician striving to be antiracist.
Sky has a background in trans community organizing and community mental health. They have led workshops and trainings on healthy community conflict and gender affirming mental health care. Sky holds a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Yale University and a Master’s in Social Work from Simmons University. In their free time, Sky enjoys riding their bike, crocheting, cooking, and dog cuddles.
Sky is fluent in English and conversationally fluent in Spanish and French.
